Tidewater Chapter Facts


Location: The chapter covers the Tidewater area of Virginia, centered on the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area, as well as parts of northeastern North Carolina. This area has a population of 1.6 million, most located in the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News and Hampton.

Established: August 17, 1967

Membership (As of 3/31/08): 240 (including students and retired members)

Industries Represented: Tidewater chapter members represent a wide array of industries. These include: federal, state and local governments; higher education; K-12 education; banking; retail; healthcare; private consultants and others.

Tidewater Chapter Within The IIA


District: The Tidewater Chapter is part of District 1, Mid-Atlantic Region. This district also includes the Central Virginia (Richmond) Chapter and the Southwest Virginia (Roanoke) Chapter.

Region: Mid-Atlantic. This region covers the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and the District of Columbia. There are a total of 12 chapters in the region: Tidewater, Central Virginia, Southwest Virginia, Northern Virginia, Raleigh-Durham, Triad (Greensboro), Charlotte, Coastal Carolina (Charleston), Palmetto (Columbia), Western Carolinas (Greenville), Baltimore and Washington, DC.

North America: The Mid-Atlantic is one of nine regions in North America. The others are: West, South, Southeastern, Mid-Western, Central, Northeast, Canada and the Caribbean.
